Dreaming with Solomon
The Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream.
At night.
One of my favorite blog writers is also a mother of three boys. She is also our daughter. She hasn’t written in awhile. She plays as much as she can with her boys, and often she sits, waiting for her 11 month old to fall asleep. Five years ago, when her middle son was just then himself 11 months old, she wrote … restless but falling asleep herself, she put her hand flat on the cool yellow wall of the baby’s room. Suddenly she was amazed and wide awake. God came right on in to the bedroom and blessed her. And he blessed her baby.
And then she wrote. Here it is, for your delight.
But there was also … Solomon … also awake in the night, listening to the Lord:
I am a mere youth, not knowing at all how to act.
Could you make me wise and able to discern right from wrong and act that way with those I care for?
And the Lord was pleased, and he said,
Yes.
I will give you a heart wise and understanding
More than you can even imagine or even think.
What must I do, Lord?
Your part is to keep my words, to love me, to let me call you …
Let my kindness comfort you
In the dawn of day and the dark of night
Let my words come to you and give you light and understanding,
More precious than gold.
Is it true, Lord, that you make all things good?
I always work all things for the good of those who love me.
You can be sure I will work every detail in your lives into something good.
God, do you actually call us by name? Are you with me every moment, even this one now?
Yes, and after calling you by name I set you up on a solid basis with myself.
Just watch, I will establish you AND the work of your hands,
I will be with you to the end.
You will witness the glorious completion of all that has begun.
My babies too? The loved ones in my life?
Oh, my dear child, yes!
It is the little ones, with their eyes not yet dimmed by the world
Who see the mysteries of the kingdom
Clearest of all
Oh, Lord, you bring life to every portion of my body and my soul!
And there is so much more, dear one.
Like a treasure buried in a field,
Like a fine pearl without price,
The kingdom of heaven is here, now, with you.
Sitting with my baby beside the yellow wall
I wait for you, and you find me
You wait for me, and I find you.
This is a good thing we have together,
Living this life of joy.

Yes, it’s good to be reminded that Heavenly Father (and Heavenly Mother) will never let us fall. Well said, my friend, but your progeny said it best.
