Note about my surgery
I am scheduled to have open chest, quadruple bypass surgery on Monday, June 15, 2026 at 7 am … at Ascension Seton Medical Center in Austin, Texas (38th Street)

I’m grateful and honored to be physically and virtually surrounded by friends from past and present, from Austin and Urbana and countless places in between. Andi put together an awesome Lotsa Helping Hands website for us all to use.
Three decades or so ago at the Urbana Vineyard Hap and Di shared a Greek word with us that gave us a name for the family of folks that surround you, that encircle and invest in you, and thereby reveal God’s grace-with-skin-on:
OIKOS.
These days Margaret’s and my oikos seems to be an ever-expanding thing. And what I’m discovering is that this community somehow absorbs much of my fear and trembling. The killing power of this life-threatening (or ending) crisis would crush me alone. Scary, dangerous, sometimes fatal … but experiencing it in my oikos …  this crisis becomes a priceless chance to see God more clearly, in the eyes of those who love me.
And then … with ruah, the Holy Spirit Wind in my face, I can’t help but blow the trumpet, loud and strong.
