Quiet days with Jack and Aly
The word of God is not chained.
When Jack and Aly were babies, we drove to be with them while their parents were working. Our trip was 90 miles each way. We needed another car, so we bought a Prius, after Margaret’s wise mind pointed out its 40 plus mph, and we were amazed. Never happier with a car. We bought a second Prius six years later, and might get a third one in a year or two.
If we have died with him we shall also live with him; if we persevere we shall also reign with him.
On this trip we parked our car and are being driven around by Jack, whose driver’s permit is getting plenty of use. This is wonderful for me, since I drove the 1000 miles from Austin on Sunday and Monday. Now I just relax and watch the scenery.
Last night Jack and Aly took us to Texas Road House. Nice. We all had fine Texas steaks with baked potatoes. And again, we were not in charge. So nice to rest.
Be eager to present yourself as acceptable to God, a workman who causes no disgrace, imparting the word of truth without deviation.
Jack and I played nine holes of golf. Jack is on the high school golf team, and I hadn’t played for several years. We were both “disturbed” by our play, but at least Jack hit the ball well, and I sometimes got the ball up in the air. The great thing was that I didn’t put my back out, and now I have more confidence to get out there on the course again. Marc played golf once a week last summer. Maybe I can join him this year.
Summer vacation feels pretty restful for us, hanging out with two teenagers who are out of school for their own summer vacation. They are busy with basketball and soon sand volleyball, but in between all of us just lay around. That just doesn’t happen for me. I like it.
Teach me your ways, O Lord. Teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my savior.
It won’t be long now, before I go to bed. It’s not midnight, it’s not even 10 pm. I read that adrenalin doesn’t fade away until three days into most vacations. Sleep, get up, eat, go to sleep again. Wait till you are living on your own healthy energy, rather than something summoned up in crisis.
That sounds good to me.
The friendship of the Lord is with those who fear him, and his covenant, for their instruction.
